Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Brandon Petersen has come under fire recently with a faction of the club supporters calling for veteran Itumeleng Khune to be reinstated as the first choice.
But the Siya crew understands the former Ajax Cape Town and Bidvest Wits keeper remains in the good books of the Amakhosi hierarchy despite a few costly errors between the sticks this season.
Petersen has conceded at least three noticeable soft goals – twice against Mamelodi Sundowns in the DStv Premiership and later in the MTN8 as well as last weekend away to Golden Arrows.
However, in all those incidents he was shielded by then coach Molefi Ntseki as well as the club's current interim tactician Cavin Johnson. The goalkeeper has not lost his place as a result, with Khune only considered when Petersen has been excused for personal reasons or injury – the comments from the technical bench is evidence.
The 29-year-old has so far featured in 11 matches for Chiefs during the current campaign, conceding 10 goals and keeping four clean sheets and it's understood he is highly rated inside the club for his professionalism and general athleticism.
He was initially recommended to the Glamour Boys by coach Gavin Hunt, but the multiple title winner could not bring him on board immediately when he was appointed Amakhosi coach because of the transfer ban.
Now in the final year of his contract with the Soweto giants, there's yet to be any official announcements regarding a new deal, but if the information gathered by the Siya crew from insider Chiefs are anything to go by, then the former Bidvest Wits man could be set to remain at Naturena.
This will be confirmed for sure, however, if a new deal is agreed.
