Siya sources have indicated it's looking increasingly unlikely that Mamelodi Sundowns will clinch a deal to get attacker Percy Tau back at Chloorkop. It's no secret that coach Rulani Mokwena is a huge admirer of the Bafana Bafana international and would loving nothing but to see a reunion as his contract with Al Ahly nears its expiry date.
However, impeccable sources at Sundowns have informed Soccer Laduma that the Egyptian giants have so far gone cold on an enquiry from the Brazilians about the future of goal ace Tau. The relationship between the two clubs is far from cordial because of what has now become one of the biggest rivalries on the African continent, and for Ahly to sell one of their best assets to a competitor appears to be out of the question.
Downs, sources have suggested, have been testing Ahly's resolve over whether a transfer is possible by trying to get a figure out of their counterparts given Tau's contract will expire at the end of June next year. It means the former Brighton and Hove Albion forward can put pen to paper on a pre-contract in about five months' time.
But the Siya crew has it on good authority that Sundowns are keen to make an offer now before the Premier Soccer League transfer window closes on September 22 to beef up their attack.
However, as things stand, Ahly have not entertained any talk of selling Tau, who is equally loved by coach Marcel Koller, who could push that the player be offered a new deal in the coming months.
