The Siya crew has been informed that Sekhukhune United are set to make a number of changes to the club's playing personnel.
In trying to build on their promising maiden top-flight season, the side significantly strengthened their squad by roping in 23 new players at the start of the campaign.
As a result, Babina Noko saw a significant increase on their wage bill. The latest news coming out of the club is that a number of players will be released at the end of the season, with head coach Brandon Truter alluding to the fact in recent weeks.
"I think for the quality to come out, we have to get rid of the quantity that is there. For a coach to succeed and keep a competitive level in training, it has to be quality; the intensity needs to be right. And once it's a bloated squad and you have to try and keep everybody happy, the focus gets divided. At that moment, you'll have a disgruntled group of about 10-15 players on the outside, and 20 players that you're working with and focusing on," he told journalists at a press conference.
Indications from Siya sources are that in addition to creating a manageable squad for Truter to work with, the ambitious side is also looking to decrease their wage bill ahead of the new campaign.
The club is understood to have already identified those who would be released. The decision, however, is said to be delayed as they are still chasing the Nedbank Cup trophy as well as a Top Eight finish, which they missed out on last season.
According to a source, drastic changes at this point of the campaign could have a negative effect on the club's progress.
Soccer Laduma understands that Sekhukhune are looking to have around 25 players in their squad next season, with an eye on promoting a number of youngsters from the development structures.
