Sekhukhune To Take Option On Leepile’s Contract?

Sekhukhune To Take Option On Leepile’s Contract?

Sekhukhune United are expected to exercise their option on Tlotlo Leepile's contract to keep him longer at the club.

Unlike in 2021/22, the central midfielder was not a regular for the side this past campaign. The 26-yearold featured 18 times in the season prior.

However, his fortunes have drastically changed, which has seen him feature just eight times in all competitions – six as a starter and twice from the substitutes bench.

Adding to his limited game-time has been the addition of experienced campaigners Kamohelo Mokotjo and Sibusiso Vilakazi, which has meant that the Stars of Africa development product has not made the matchday squad for more than a dozen games heading to the end of the season.

It was thought that the Kimberly-born star would be part of the much-publicized mass exodus at the club.

However, according to sources, Babina Noko are already considering exercising the option to extend his stay. Having joined in 2020 from Mamelodi Sundowns, Leepile was signed on a three-year contract, while the club had a two-year option on the deal.

"Tlotlo signed a three-year contract with Sekhukhune United when he joined from (Mamelodi) Sundowns, although he was playing for the ABC Motsepe League team, M-Tigers. Sekhukhune have an option to extend the deal. The option is for two years, and indications are that the club could be exercising the option," said a source.

"There has been a few disciplinary issues in the past, but the coach still has faith in him, and he is a valuable player for them," the source added.
