Sekhukhune Run Riot In PSL Awards

The PSL has announced the recipients for the Coach and Player of the Month awards for February/March.

With the 2023/23 season reaching its business end, the league has gone through the process of choosing the top achievers from games upon the resumption of the DStv Premiership following the Africa Cup of Nations and decided on Linda Mntambo, Lehlohonolo Seema, and Thabiso Lebitso as the deserving winners of the monthly individual trophies.

"Sekhukhune United have been rewarded for a perfect run as coach Lehlohonolo Seema and Linda Mntambo picked up the DStv Premiership monthly awards for player and coach in February/March 2024," confirmed the PSL in a statement.

"Seema, who wins his first DStv Premiership Coach of the Month award has seen Sekhukhune impressively continue to climb up the log standings over the past two months. Having only joined Sekhukhune in November, he has overseen a remarkable February/March period with his side winning five out of five matches, scoring 11 goals and only conceding thrice. He received huge praise from the judging panel in the way he has got Ba Bina Noko to play an exciting, free flowing style of football as they beat Richards Bay, Golden Arrows, Royal AM, Moroka Swallows and Orlando Pirates," stated the league.

"DStv Premiership Player of the Month winner, Mntambo, who has missed most of the season owing to injuries, marked his return to action with a consistent run of influential performances by scoring three goals and providing two assists, in crucial victories for his side, earning his first monthly individual award in the league. This is the first time in the history of the awards that a coach or player from Sekhukhune United win an award," read the statement.

"Orlando Pirates new right-back, Thabiso Lebitso, welcomed himself to the Bucs' faithful with stunningly taken goal from outside the 18-yard box in his side's 3-2 win over rivals Kaizer Chiefs in the Soweto Derby and saw his goal voted the DStv Premiership Goal of the Monthfor February/March. Teboho Mokoena came very close to getting the award for his screamer against SuperSport United last month. For their recognition, all the winning coaches and players will each receive a trophy and R7, 000 courtesy of league sponsors, DStv," concluded the statement.
