Former Orlando Pirates winger Luvuyo Memela has detailed how he once spent six weeks training under veteran coach Cavin Johnson without being signed.
On his way to stardom after he signed with Pirates in 2015, Memela had a tough time in convincing clubs to give him a chance, including SuperSport United where he says he trained under Johnson for weeks without any luck.

It was after playing in the National First Division for Cape Town All Stars that Memela was eventually noticed by a big club when he joined the Soweto giants.
"I went to train with SuperSport after I had initially been at Free State Stars. It's one of the clubs I was at for long and I had been patient, but I wasn't getting any feedback from anyone. I trained with the club for six weeks and I wasn't signed, and no one was saying anything. The coach was Cavin Johnson, and I guess he was under pressure because things were not going as well for him as they were at his previous club Platinum Stars in terms of the results, and maybe that's why he could not make a decision on me," said Memela, speaking exclusively to the Siya crew.

"I remember Bra Tim (Sukazi, former agent) pleading with me to be patient, but I had run out of patience, and I couldn't continue anymore. I went to Swallows, and from there too, I wasn't signed. I went to a few other clubs and it was a long journey for me before I eventually signed with Pirates and those are the challenges that we go through as players which some people aren't aware of," said Memela.
