In the same Soweto Derby, the centre-back had come on as a substitute in the second half and was unfortunate to score an own goal as the Buccaneers lost 1-0 to their perennial rivals.

An official word from the club was that the Nigerian international had been injured from the same match.

In his absence, Tapelo Xoki and Nkosinathi Sibisi had been doing the job in the centre of Bucs' defence, while Sandile Mthethwa has also been forcing his way into the Spanish coach's matchday squads.

So far in the 2022/23 campaign, the 25-year-old has made 17 appearances in all competitions although indications are that he is working on his possible comeback with a view of finishing the season on a high.

"He is working hard on his come back to the team. He was injured but is now fine and it's a matter of time before he returns. The coach makes the decision on who plays and who doesn't and he is waiting for his chance," said the source.
