Modise has been vocal about his struggles during his Pirates career, citing a big sense of loneliness during his time at the club, owing to his upbringing and constant fights within himself.
'The General' as Modise is fondly known, hopes that the new generation of Bucs stars do not have to go through the same thing and has set out to make contact with 'Tito and Rele' who have been the talk of the town in the 2023/24 season.
He also touched on the moment after the Nedbank Cup final, where he appeared to pass the torch onto Pirates teenage star Mofokeng.
"It's unfortunate that it [The moment with Mofokeng] was captured. Okay, [maybe] fortunate and unfortunate, because normally when I do have conversations with the players, it's very private. And to be honest with you, now that you're bringing it up and I can't run away from it, I think two or three months ago, I wanted to have lunch with him and Maswanganyi privately. Just have that conversation with them privately and the reason why I'm doing it is because when I was playing, nobody else was doing it," he told journalists at SuperSport's Euro 2024 launch.
"So just to make them understand the position they occupy, just understanding
the pressure that comes next season, it's easy for somebody to have a great
season. It's difficult to have a consistent season the second one after
everybody recognizes how you play, so I don't want them to get into that. And
then now when they find trouble, they looking for outlets, so I wanted to and I
still want to have conversation with them.
"Tito knows, so I'm just waiting for everything to come down there, and I do
that with so many players as well that I think they need some sort of
conversations and I wasn't really passing anything to that boy, I was just
confirming what he is and sometimes that's all you need to hear - just that
recognition that you're doing something great because when everybody else is
telling you around you, those are the voices that you used to.
"So when it's a different voice, it lands differently, and sometimes that's
what you need. And bear in mind, I'm a Mamelodi Sundowns guy just after losing
the game. But I'm so excited of the young man. You can understand the
excitement that was there? So, I'm happy for the boy. I just hope that next
season we will see more because [Siyabonga] Mabena from Sundowns is also super talented, so
there's a lot of players that I think actually can reach the other one as well.
Mfundo Vilakazi from Chiefs too, so there's a lot of players that I think with
Mofokeng's performance and delivery, I think it inspires so many youngsters coming
after him.
