Orlando Pirates' Thembinkosi Lorch Supported In Overseas Move Wish

Orlando Pirates' Thembinkosi Lorch Supported In Overseas Move Wish

A former Orlando Pirates player has suggested that a move abroad for Thembinkosi 'Nyoso' Lorch could benefit not only the reigning Absa Premiership Footballer of the Season, but also the country.

Lorch could still see his dream of playing overseas come true, though his representative has indicated that any discussion of a transfer abroad is premature at this point in time.

Lorch was strongly linked with a Europen switch at the end of last season, following his impressive performances that helped the Buccaneers finish second on the log standings.

The attacker scored 13 goals in 28 matches in all competitions for the Soweto giants, and at the end of the campaign, he was linked to French side Toulouse and Club Brugge in Belgium, amongst other clubs.

"I think Pirates should allow Lorch to move on if there is an opportunity for him to go overseas. It would be great for the country if we can have a player in one of the top leagues, maybe in Holland or Germany, or even in England if he can get a work permit," former Pirates defender Lizo Mjempu weighed in.

"At present, we don't have a player playing in the top leagues abroad, since Thulani Serero is no longer in the Netherlands. A move for Lorch to a top overseas league would also serve as an encouragement to the youngsters that we are coaching in the ABC Motsepe League. His move would benefit the country," the ex-left-back told the Siya crew.

Lorch, 26, had shown signs of last season's form shortly before the close of the league due to the COVID-19 pandemic, after he initially struggled with form at the start of this campaign.

Meanwhile, the player's representative Jazzman Mahlakgane, said the player's opportunities will be looked at after COVID-19, as reported in edition 1175 of Soccer Laduma.

"Talking about overseas and anything like that right now, I think that's premature. Nobody even knows when those overseas clubs are going to resume playing. It's better to wait and see what's going to happen post-COVID-19. Let's wait and see when football is going to resume. But, like any other player, he (Lorch) is an ambitious boy and he's got an ambitious agency and let's see," said Mahlakgane.
