A win would make Pirates the first team to clinch the MTN8 title three times in a row since the competition's inception in 1972. Despite the historical significance, Bucs captain Innocent Maela insists that the team's focus remains firmly on just the game itself.

Speaking to journalists during a media open day at Rand Stadium in Johannesburg, Maela emphasized that the team's primary objective is to play their best game possible to secure the trophy.
"Yes, we know if we win then history will be made but that's not what is running through our minds. What we are thinking about is to play our best game and avoid defeat," Maela told the media.
"For us to win this game we have to remain focused on ourselves and what we can do, than thinking more of them. Yes, we have studied them and we know their strengths and weaknesses but it won't be about history. We have to win first and then history will follow," Maela added.
Meanwhile, Pirates coach Jose Riveiro highlighted the importance of not underestimating Stellenbosch FC, acknowledging their capabilities and past performances in the tournament. Riveiro pointed out that Pirates have not had it easy against Stellenbosch in their last four encounters.

"Our players are smart to know that they cannot undermine their opponents. We played them twice in the MTN8 and twice in the league and we won only once at Athlone Stadium and they are a very good team and we are aware of that. So, we won't be taking them lightly at all," Riveiro concluded.
Furthermore, while Bucs have dominated South African domestic cup competitions since Riveiro's arrival in the country, Stellies were the team to win the only remaining cup, the Carling Knockout last season.
As Pirates gear up for the MTN8 final, the focus is on delivering a strong performance and securing the win first. While the prospect of making history is enticing, the team is committed to staying grounded and concentrating on the task at hand. With both the captain and coach emphasizing the importance of preparation and respect for their opponents, Bucs are poised to give their all in pursuit of the prestigious title.
