Shalulile Scoring Rate Compared To Other 100-Goal Plus Club

Shalulile Scoring Rate Compared To Other 100-Goal Plus Club

With Mamelodi Sundowns forward Peter Shalulile on the verge of breaking the PSL's record tally of goals by Siyabonga Nomvethe, where does he rank in scoring rate compared to other 100-club strikers?

Shalulile notched his 100th goal in the colours of Sundowns in their 2-0 win over AmaZulu on Wednesday and most importantly, took his overall tally in the PSL to 127 goals, three shy of breaking a record tally long held by Nomvethe.

But among the all-time top goalscorers in the PSL era, where does the Namibian rank in terms of scoring rate?

Nomvethe could have probably scored more if he stayed in the PSL for all his career, after he initially left Mzansi just four years from his introduction by African Warriors, where he joined Italian club Udinese in 2001 following a dream move to Kaizer Chiefs, where he spent three seasons.

'Bhele' played abroad for the better part of his career, only returning for six months at Orlando Pirates in 2006 before he left again for Denmark.

The KwaMashu-born striker extended his PSL goals following his return to Moroka Swallows in 2009, playing also for the likes of AmaZulu before he retired in 2020.

It took Nomvethe 12 years and six months to score 123 goals.

Next on the list is Bradley Grobler, who is third in the PSL scoring charts with 112 goals and counting.

Grobler made his PSL debut for defunct Platinum Stars in 2007 and also after four years was signed by Turkish club Goztepe but he spent only one season in Europe before he returned for Cape Town Spurs.

The current SuperSport striker took 17 years to reach the 100 club and added further 12 goals in the same period.

Fourth and fifth on the PSL all-time scoring list is Daniel Mudau and Mabhuti Khenyeza, who are both tied on 110 goals.

Mudau was a little prolific, scoring all his goals for Sundowns within 11 years while it took Khenyeza 16 and half years to reach his milestone.

Shalulile not only is on the brink of setting a new record but he has been the most prolific as well, reaching 127 goals within ten years, since he debuted for Highlands Park in 2015.
