The Premier Soccer League would have considered having the Nedbank Cup final at FNB Stadium, but chose Moses Mabhida Stadium and the reason has been revealed.

With a stadium capacity of 90 000, the venue would have accomodated a lot more supporters than what Moses Mabhida can for arguably the two biggest clubs in the country. Moses Mabhida Stadium has a capacity of 56 000.
Due to the Ultra Event happening at Nasrec Expo Centre, which is next door to FNB Stadium, it made more sense to have the final played in Durban. The Ultra Event, a music festival which features well known DJs such as Shimza and Oscar Mbo, is scheduled for the same day as the cup final.

The stadium in Durban has hosted a Soweto Derby cup final in the past. In 2014, Amakhosi and the Buccaneers locked horns in an MTN8 final final, which the Naturena based outfit won 1-0 thanks to a goal from defender Tefu Mashamaite.
Having it in Durban means supporters will have to be quick to buy tickets before they get sold out, because it's not as big as FNB Stadium, where the derby is usually played.
