Amid the current turmoil facing the country, there was some good news for local football enthusiasts as Supersport announced on Wednesday that they will be airing the historic CAF Champions League final between Kaizer Chiefs and Al Ahly.
For most of the tournament, fans have largely had to rely on the use of online streaming platforms to follow the progress of their favourite teams, with the pay channel not able to secure the rights for the broadcast of the 2021 CAF Champions League.
However, SuperSport through a statement released on the company's official website, confirmed that they will be airing the final, which takes place at the Mohammed V Stadium in Casablanca on Saturday.
Having secured the rights, Marc Jury, SuperSport's chief executive, was delighted: "Games on the continent don't get bigger than this and we are thrilled to showcase Africa's best in a match of this magnitude. Two of Africa's super clubs in a major final will no doubt boost fans in these challenging times," the statement read in part.
The Pitso Mosimane-led Al Ahly have already made their way to Morocco having landed on Tuesday afternoon, while Chiefs are expected to jet out on Wednesday.
Mosimane's side go in search of their 10th CAF Champions League final, while for Chiefs their aim is to become the third South African team after Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns to boast a star on their jersey.
Kick off for the match is scheduled for 21:00 on SuperSport Channel 202 for SA viewers.
