Sheppard was standing in for head coach Arthur Zwane, who was feeling under the weather on Wednesday ahead of their Nedbank Cup clash against Casric Stars on Sunday.
Veering off track a bit, 'Sheppy' was asked about Chiefs' continental ambitions, which can be attained by finishing in second spot in the DStv Premiership as well as winning the Nedbank Cup.
The coach in response, made no secret of Amakhosi's desire to return to the Champions League.
"Once you've had a taste of the Champions League and Africa, and going all the way to the final like we did, and have that experience, our talk has always been Champions League has to be," he told journalists.
"The top competition and this club deserves to be there, you know, with the stature of the club and its history, it's our job and that's the space we need to be talking in.
"And yes, this cup gives us an opportunity to play in the Confederations Cup but to be honest with you, we want to be in the Champions League spot because like I say, once you've had a taste of that and the experience of that, I think it's the only place you want to be," he continued.
