The story
The Siphiwe Tshabalala Soccer Tournament is entering its 10th year this winter, with the Bafana Bafana legend taking to social media to build excitement for this year’s edition.
Shabba posted a throwback to last year's tournament at the Kgotso Grounds in Phiri, Soweto, where three age-groups of boys and a girls section battled it out over two weeks, with last year’s tourney running for 23 days.
The Amakhosi legendary midfielder and attacker shared throwback footage of last year's teams singing and celebrating trophies, in a winter football festival that included teams from Gauteng, Eastern Cape, Free State and the Western Cape.
With Shabba and his foundation roping brands he's affiliated with, like Future Life and Betway, to the tournament, it's grown into one of the standout youth football tournaments in Gauteng, providing an amazing platform for youngsters to be identified by the country's biggest clubs and academies.
Take a look at Shabba looking ahead to the 10th anniversary of his tournament:
It's in Shabba's nature to give back and to honour his roots; not only does he do that with his tournament and the work of his foundation, but also in the smallest ways.
In the past, Shabba has gone viral for supporting street vendors whenever he can, and late last month, he showed his support to fruit and veg sellers in Giyani, Limpopo.
