The story
Not long after Wydad Casablanca confirmed that Rulani Mokwena's time as head coach will officially draw to a close once the 2024/25 season has been concluded, the young tactician made a welcome return to IG!
In late March, Mokwena released a statement announcing that he'll be taking an indefinite break from social media to focus on his mental wellbeing and rejuvenating his spirit, among other reasons.
Rulani took over at Wydad at the beginning of the season, and after a complete squad revamp, Wydad currently find themselves in third place, an improvement from last season's sixth-place finish.
Despite an improved showing from the Moroccan giants this campaign, a run of six consecutive draws sees them six points adrift from second-place RS Berkane in the Botola Pro 1, leaving their chances of CAF Champions League qualification for next season in a precarious position with just three games to go.
With Rulani on his way out of the club, it's clear that he left quite the impression on Dutch-born winger, Mohamed Rayhi, who penned a heartfelt tribute to the outgoing Wydad head coach.
"I can't thank you enough for what you did for me. How you treated me, how you made me a better person and a better player. You are an amazing human being and an amazing coach," wrote Rayhi, in a statement shared on his IG story, with a picture of him and Rulani attached.
"You made a lot of things better at Wydad that people outside don’t know. Thank you for everything, and I wish you all the best in the future. You deserve the best," added Rayhi, who featured in over 20 games for Rulani this season.
Rulani responded by reposting a video of the two embracing on the touchline, writing, 'Great man. Your career speaks for itself. Incredible professional. I still expect a lot of great things from you. Thank you for everything."
