Bafana newbie: Mlondi Mbanjwa
Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos announced his final squad of 23-players for the FIFA Series in Algeria, with the Belgian mentor maintaining the majority of his AFCON squad, including a couple of returnees and some fresh faces.
Among the new players is 25-year-old Mlondi Mbanjwa who has impressed the Bafana Bafana selectors with his consistent performances for Pablo Franco Martin this season.
Mbanjwa joined Usuthu from Uthongathi FC at the beginning of the 2023/24 season, and the dynamic attacker has made 16 appearances in all competitions, scoring one goal and earning two assists.
According to the AmaZulu website, Mbanjwa hails from Mariannhill in Durban and has plied his trade at Free State Stars and Polokwane City before Uthongathi.
He goes by the nickname of "Cheese" for his skill and versatility, with the ability of playing in midfield, right-wing and right-back. He is also a PUMA athlete.
On social media, Mbanjwa isn't the flashiest. He drives a neat grey VW Polo and lives a calm, coastal lifestyle that sees him going to aquarium with his son, eating at a Shisa Nyama or enjoying some beachside sundowners.
