The story
Durban City FC (formerly Maritzburg United) will be partnering with the University of KwaZulu Natal (UKZN) in an effort to grow football and create new opportunities for young talent in the province.
The Durbanites, who sit six points atop of the Motsepe Foundation Championship table, made the announcement by releasing a statement on their various social media platforms.
The club described the partnership as a groundbreaking one that will see them collaborating with UKZN on a number of areas to advance the beautiful game in a region that's produced a wealth of South African football talent.
As part of Durban City and UKZN's Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), the two parties have agreed to work together on the following:
- Sport Scholarship and academic development for qualifying players
- Cooperative football development projects
- Access for Durban City players to use UKZN's sporting facilities and injury rehab services
- Durban City to provide coaching assistance to UKZN's football programme
- Opportunities for UKZN student athletes to train and play for Durban City
- Internship opportunities for UKZN students at Durban City
- Mutually beneficial marketing and commercial opportunities
