The story
Qatar SC star Tau, reached the illustrious 50-cap club for Bafana Bafana in their 2-0 victory over Benin at the Stade Houphouet-Boigny in Abidjan, Ivory Coast.
The 'Lion of Judah' took to Instagram to reflect on recently becoming a half centurion, to express gratitude for the opportunities he's received in the national team.
Tau thanked his teammates, coaches and supporters who've been there for his journey, from his debut under Shakes Mashaba as a 21-year-old to his reaching his 50th, aged 30, the 36th Bafana player to reach the milestone.
The ex-Mamelodi Sundowns star made his South Africa debut on 17 October 2015 during a 2-0 loss to Angola in a 2016 AFCON qualifier. He scored his first international goal on 25 March 2017, finding the net in the 69th minute against Guinea-Bissau.
His start against Lesotho last Friday was his first for Bafana in almost nine months after missing the entire 2025 AFCON qualifying campaign between September and November last year as his club career at Al Ahly stalled before his January move to Doha.
"What an incredible journey it has been! From the first call-up to the 50th appearance, it has been an absolute honour to wear Bafana Bafana colours," wrote Percy on Instagram.
"Thank you to my teammates, coaches, and most importantly the fans who've supported me every step of the way. Here's to many more," added the ex-Club Brugge and Brighton Hove Albion baller, who received love in the comments from Siphiwe Tshabalala, Ramahlwe Mphahlele, Cassius Mailula, Gaston Sirino and Lebogang Manyama among others.

Tau's 50th against Benin came to an end in the 76th-minute after he was replaced by rising star and Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder, Jayden Adams.
It proved to be a brilliant decision from Hugo Broos as Adams bagged Bafana's second just eight minutes after his introduction to seal a crucial win that took South Africa to 13 points at the top of Group C.
