The story
Clinton Larsen is currently on cloud nine after surprise packages, Magesi FC's start to the season that's headlined by a fairytale run to the Carling Knockout Cup title.
The former Manning Rangers and Orlando Pirates midfielder briefly reflected on his playing days at The Mighty Maulers, where he spent the bulk of his professional football career.
Larsen was part of Rangers' iconic 1996/97 league winning side under the tutelage of Gordan Igesund and shared a funny story about a memorable away day in the CAF Champions League from the following season.
"We played in the Champions League as well. We went to places like Morocco, we played Raja Casablanca and we had a very naughty group of people at the club," admitted Larsen in his chat with Peter Du Toit on the SoccerBeat podcast.
"...Including 'Sheppy', our masseur, Dillon Sheppard's dad [Douglas]. Sheppy was such a naughty old man. You know after the game, we're at the hotel, the guys are just sitting around, bored. We've just got a great result away from home against Raja Casablanca.
"The lads decide, 'let's get some beers here by the pool and we'll put the bill on Afzal Khan's name. I promise you, by the end of the night, there must've been around 100 beer bottles around the pool. Did we not get in trouble for that...
"We were called into a DC, the players had to go in and account for the bill that came to the club, we all had to contribute to pay off the fine," shared Larsen.
