Last Tuesday I rushed home to watch Bafana Bafana take on the world champions in an international friendly.
With the game only starting at nine, I was of the opinion that the SABC will cross over to their sports presenters for an analysis of the game after Generations, but to my surprise, the drama series Society started at 20h30!
The SABC immediately switched onto the game which was starting at 21h00 with no pre-match talk, starting XIs etc.
I feel that the football loving people of this country were short changed by the so-called official broadcaster of Bafana Bafana games.
For heaven's sake these was no ordinary game, it was Bafana playing against the world champions Spain, so for the SABC to just go straight into the game without any build-up was just plain disrespect to the ordinary people of South Africa who can't afford to watch pay TV.
Just the other day, one of the SABC head honchos was making a joke on TV saying that the public broadcaster was no longer showing the delayed live matches, but the fact that there was no build-up to this game, felt like it was a delayed live match.
I think the Safa hierarchy should take this up with the SABC and demand an explanation as to why people had to guess who was playing for Bafana or Spain in that game.
Knowing Safa though, they'll let this one pass, just like they did when they agreed that the Bafana games will be shown at 20h30 after Generations.
I think the SABC has no respect for the national team. Well, that's my thoughts.
Do you think the SABC does respect Bafana?
