Platinum Stars Will Travel To Mozambique In The CAF Confederations Cup

Platinum Stars are playing in CAF competition for the first time since 2008, when participating in the 2017 edition, but face three tough clashes before the group stages get underway. Read: Uganda Or Angola For Downs Dikwena played in both the CAF Champions League and Confederations Cup tournaments back in 2008, losing to Al Ahly of Egypt in the CCL and CS Sfaxien in the CCC after they dropped into it. Both their opponents went on to win the two competitions that year. Now, after finishing third in the Absa Premiership last season, Cavin Johnson has the chance to take his team back out into the continent, starting with a trip to União do Songo of Mozambique. Songo are there after winning the Taça de Moçambique in 2016, and will be hoping to get one over on their South African neighbours in February. Should Stars make it past the Mozambicans, they will then face a trip to either Uganda or Comoros, facing either SC Vipers or Kaizer Chiefs' CCL opponents from last year, Volcan de Moroni. If Johnson's side do manage to win both of their games, they will then face a CCL dropout in the playoff stages as they bid for a spot in the four groups. The preliminary games are set to take place on the weekends of the 10th and 17th of February, with the first round games being played exactly one month later.
