Orlando Pirates coach Eric Tinkler has the backing of some of the team's legends, including Dumisa Ngobe, in his quest to bring continental glory to the club.

Tinkler could make history by becoming the first South African coach to deliver the CAF trophy to the country, should Pirates defeat Etoile du Sahel in their Confederation Cup game this weekend and the away tie.
While Pirates have been inconsistent with their results in domestic competitions, the team is on the verge of making history on the continent under Tinkler, with Ngobe heaping praise on the former Bafana Bafana midfielder for the achievement.
"Eric Tinkler has been under pressure because of the team's results in domestic league. Locally, Pirates has not been doing well. He has been under pressure from the supporters. The supporters have been calling for Eric to be removed as the coach. If he can bring the CAF cup the supporters will value him.
"Honestly speaking, it's not easy in Africa. It happened to us as well when we were still playing. The team would lose some of the games locally, when we were playing in Africa. We focused our energy on the Champions League.
"It's the same thing that is happening to the boys now. They reserve their energy for the CAF Confederation Cup. But the problem is that the supporters don't understand the dynamics of the game.

"There is no problem with the coach. Instead, history will be created because he is going to be the only local coach to win the CAF competition. We don't have any other local coach who has won the CAF Champions League or Confederation Cup. It will put him on the map because it's not easy to play in these kind of games," said Ngobe.
