Bidvest Wits crashed out of the CAF Confederation Cup, after suffering a 1-0 loss to Smouha on Saturday evening.
The home side enjoyed most of the attacks in the early stages, although Moeneeb Josephs was not forced into any saves. However, Smouha were awarded a penalty after 33 minutes when Ben Motshwari was adjudged to have handled in the box. The hosts managed to score the spot-kick, 1-0. Josephs was the busier of the two goalkeepers in the first half, as he produced another fine save in the 41st minute to deny Smouha. Wits, meanwhile, struggled to create any serious efforts at goal as they went into the break trailing. Gavin Hunt opted for a change at the start of the second half, as Phakamani Mahlambi made way for Mogakolodi Ngele. The Clever Boys had their first meaningful effort at goal in the 58th minute when Siboniso Gaxa forced the Smouha goalkeeper into a fine save with an effort from distance. Cutbert Malajila was introduced after 71 minutes, with Eleazar Rodgers making for the Zimbabwean forward. Wits pushed for an equaliser in the closing stages, going for the long ball option however they could not find the breakthrough and have been knocked out of the tournament, losing 1-0 on aggregate.
