CAF Confederation Cup Report: Medeama - Mamelodi Sundowns 18 May 2016

CAF Confederation Cup Report: Medeama - Mamelodi Sundowns 18 May 2016
CAF Confederation Cup   Result: Madeama 2-0 Mamelodi Sundowns (3-3 on aggregate)   Date: 18 May 2016   Venue: Abrankese Stadium   Mamelodi Sundowns crashed out of the CAF Confederation Cup on the away goals rule, after losing 2-0 to Medeama in their second leg tie.   The Brazilians came into the clash with a healthy lead, having won the first leg 3-1 at home.    The hosts got off to the better start and managed to force Denis Onyango into a few saves in the opening 15 minutes.   The Ghanaian outfit then squandered a golden chance to take the lead after 30 minutes, as Abbas failed to convert from inside the six-yard box.   Medeama were handed a lifeline when they were awarded a penalty in the 34th minute, after Thabo Ntehthe was adjudged to have brought down Agyie. Akwa stepped up and converted from the spot, 1-0.   The score remained 1-0 in favour of the hosts at the break. While, Pitso Mosimane introduced Cuthbert Malajila for Teko Modise at the start of the second half.   However, it was the hosts who grabbed the next goal thanks to a strike from Aforu in the 65th minute.    It went from bad to worse for Sundowns in the aftermath of the goal, as Onyango was sent off for kicking out at Abass.   Depsite the numerical disadvantage, Sundowns pushed for a crucial away goal in the final stages of the second half but could not bypass the Medeama defence.   The score remained 2-0 to Medeama and 3-3 on aggregate, with the Ghanaian outfit securing their spot in the group stages via the away goals rule.   Here's how they lined up:   Medeama: Tagoe, Adade, Sarpong, Amoah, Aidoo, Akowuah, Kwakwa, Boahene, Attah Agyei, Ofori, Mohammed   Mamelodi Sundowns: 36. Onyango, 21. S. Zwane, 16. Mphahlele, 4. Langerman, 2. Nthethe, 6. Arendse, 29. Bangaly, 8. Kekana, 7. Dolly, 10. Modise, 20. Billiat
