The Urban Warriors confirmed today that they would not be taking part in this year's CCC after problems with engaging with their Angolan opponents regarding travel, with the club expressing their disappointment at having to withdraw.
However, no matter their intentions, it seems that the Urban Warriors will be hit with a two-year ban and a fine of around R80,000 for their decision to pull out.
CAF rules state that:
"A withdrawal reported during the preliminary round is sanctioned with a loss of the entry right as well as a fine of five thousand (5000) U.S. dollars."
And:
"Apart from the financial sanctions mentioned in paras 4 to 9 here above, every club withdrawing from the competition after the establishment of the fixtures will be forbidden from participating in all CAF inter-clubs competitions for the next two editions following its withdrawal."
CAF are likely to make a statement regarding Ajax's decision at some stage, and up until then it remains to be seen whether it will be Ajax, for withdrawing, or the Angolan FA/Sagrada Esperanca, for failing to provide details, who will be punished,
