Pitso Mosimane has made an example of the competition on the African continent, saying that after going to finals, not many teams have been successful domestically.
Mamelodi Sundowns are faced with a busy domestic schedule, while they also prepare to get their Champions League campaign underway next month.

Speaking to the media, Mosimane said that not many teams are successful domestically when they are taking part in continental competitions, adding that Sundowns, Esperance de Tunis and Al Ahly are the only teams in the CAF Champions League who are also on top of their respective domestic league.
"If you check the Champions League, it is unbelievable, if you look at the history, where Zesco went after playing us; they went to lose the league. Zamalek, after that, they are not there. SuperSport went to the final, not yet there," Mosimane told the media.
"Orlando Pirates, did the CAF Confederations Cup final, number 11 on the log after, we can mention so many casualties are there.

"Look at Al Ahly, top of the log, Esperance de Tunis, top of the log, Mamelodi Sundowns, top of the log, three teams in Africa… so, it is big and sometimes because (of) home, we don't care about the continent. So that's when you say you are really competing at the highest ever level, okay you can lose the Telkom, you can lose the Nedbank, it is okay, but we also want to make history, play champions league every year, four years in a row, unbelievable and you know what is the passport to play Champions League, you are number one or number two.
"(Bidvest) Wits played Champions league last year, you know where they are. We can mention a lot. Don't play there, it is for big boys, otherwise stay domestic," he added.
