Young Players Have Lost Their Way

Young Players Have Lost Their Way

In Africa, there is an idiom which states, "Listen to your elders for they know the way." This principle is even mentioned in the Bible and it dictates, "Respect your father and mother (elders) and you will live a long life."

As an avid football supporter, I often read the comments and suggestions made by our football legends, and I wonder if our soccer players actually see these comments.

Our legends have been there and they have done that under challenging circumstances today's players cannot even imagine. These guys were paid far less (if at all) and they never played in great facilities and enjoyed the perks that came with being a footballer, and yet in their heydays, they were masters of their trade.

Today these youngsters are brash and fast and they don't even take the time to listen and learn from their predecessors. It's no wonder none of them are masters of anything but rather jacks of all trades.

Can you name me just five players today who pass the ball with the same accuracy that the late "Shakes" Kungwane could execute? Or five players today who could score goals like Marks Maponyane? I think not.
