Ghana manager, Avram Grant, has labelled Asmoah Gyan as "one of the greatest" players he has ever coached.
Gyan started his first game at this year's Africa Cup of Nations on Friday night against Algeria, and managed to score an injury-time winner for his country.
The former Chelsea manager, who has coached the likes of Didier Drogba, Frank Lampard, Michael Essien and Michael Ballack during his time at the London club, insists Gyan would definitely be among one of the greatest players he has worked with.
"I have coached some of the great players - and he's one of the greatest," Grant told BBC Sport.
"Asamoah Gyan was not fit - he didn't train like he needed to - but he's Asamoah Gyan.
"First - he always scores when you need him, and he's good for the spirit of the team; he's a very good captain."
Teammate Christian Atsu also praised his captain's ability and said having him on the pitch gives them extra belief.
"We always believe in him - any time he's in the game we have the confidence to play," said Atsu.
The Ghanaian captain has now scored for Ghana in each of the 10 major tournaments he has played in since the 2008 Africa Cup of Nations.
