2015 African Cup Of Nations
Group A
Full Time: Congo 2-1 Burkina Faso
Date: 25 January 2015
Venue: Ebebiyin Stadium
A goal two minutes from time courtesy of Fabrice Ondama saw Congo into the knockout stages of the 2015 African Cup of Nations after beating Burkina Faso 2-1 in a Group A match at the Ebebiyin Stadium on Sunday night.
Congo's win, combined with Equatorial Guinea's 2-0 victory over Gabon, means they top Group A with seven points, followed by the host nation in second on five points.
The losses for both Burkina Faso and Gabon signal the end of the tournament for them.
It was a rather cagey first half, and despite Congo dominating the possession stakes, chances on goal were few and far between.
In the 21st minute a swift flowing move from Congo saw Delvin Ndinga slip Thievy Bifouma into space just inside the box, but he dragged his effort wide of the target.
Burkina Faso's best chance of the half came in the 29th minute, but Jonathan Pitroipa shot narrowly wide from 18-yards out.
Six minutes into the second half Congo took the lead when Fode Dore broke behind the defence and squared for Thievy Bifouma to tap home, 1-0.
Burkina Faso tried to fight their way back into the game and managed to level matters in the 86th minute thanks to a clinical finish from Aristide Bance on the edge of the box, 1-1.
Two minutes later Congo found the winning goal when a mistake from Germain Sanou saw his attempted clearance bounce of Fabrice Ondama and find its way into the back of the net, 2-1.
