International Friendly
Result: England 3-0 USA
Date: 15 November 2018
Venue: Wembley Stadium
England proved too strong for the United States of America, as they romped to a 3-0 win in an international friendly match at Wembley Stadium.
The encounter was also seen as a farewell for the nation's all-time top scorer, Wayne Rooney, who started on the bench.
The Three Lions made an impressive start inside the first ten minutes of the encounter, pressing the visitors high and forcing them to make errors.
Christian Pulisic had the sole responsibility of giving USA the lead in the 22nd minute after making his way into the hosts' box but his fierce strike was saved by England goalkeeper Jordan Pickford.
Minutes later, Jesse Lingard grabbed the lead for Gareth Southgate's troops with a curling strike from the edge of the box after he was sent through following a counter-attack, 1-0.
Trent Alexander-Arnold quickly made it 2-0 for the hosts two minutes later with a powerful low strike inside the box past USA shot-stopper Brad Guzan, becoming the youngest Liverpool player to score for England.
Dave Sarachan's men were starting to show initiative going forward with ten minutes before halftime, but they were yet to truly test Pickford.
Southgate's men were still in control of the game ten minutes into the second stanza and threatening to find the third goal, while USA did look a bit more lively on the ball going forward.
The pace of the game slowed down a little after 65 minutes as both sides were making numerous changes.
However, Callum Wilson made it 3-0 for the Three Lions 13 minutes before time after poking home from inside the box following a cross by Fabian Delph on the left wing, 3-0.
Wayne Rooney nearly got on the scoresheet for the hosts in his farewell appearance deep in stoppage time with a chance at the back post, but he scuffed his effort and Guzan made a comfortable save as the encounter ended 3-0.
