The two Group F teams meet for the first time in more than 20 years on the opening night of this season's tournament

So far, they have only faced each other twice in European competition, in the Uefa Super Cup final back in 1998 to be exact, when Barcelona beat BVB 3-1 on aggregate after winning the first leg 2-0 at the Camp Nou.

Dortmund are taking part in their 14th Champions League campaign, while the Blaugrana are playing in their 24th group stage.

The Germans have won only three of their 10 European matches at home, but Barcelona have not done much better on away trips, winning just four of their past 13 European trips.

Both sides have several in-form players, with Jadon Sancho and former Barcelona striker Paco Alcacer starring for Dortmund in the early stages of the 2019/20 campaign and Ansu Fati making headlines for the Catalan giants.

The 16-year-old has scored two goals and assisted another strike in his first three appearances for Barcelona, becoming the club's youngest ever player and youngest goalscorer along the way.
