UEFA Champions League
Result: Real Madrid 1-1 Tottenham Hotspur
Date: 17 October 2017
Venue: Santiago Bernabeu
Cristiano Ronaldo and Real Madrid were left frustrated as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Tottenham Hotspur at the Santiago Bernabeu.
Real went close to opening the scoring four minutes in as a Ronaldo header clattered off the post.
Los Blancos looked in control early on, but Tottenham drew first blood in the 28th minute as a Serge Aurier cross from the right deflected off Raphaël Varane and into the net.
The hosts pushed forward in search of an equaliser and were rewarded when Aurier fouled Toni Kroos in the penalty area. Ronaldo stepped up and levelled the scores in the 43rd minute.
The two sides therefore went into half-time all square at 1-1.
Karim Benzema had a golden chance to put Real ahead in the 54th minute as he got his head on the end of a Casemiro cross. However, Hugo Lloris's point blank save kept the scores level.
Lloris was then called into action by Ronaldo in the 63rd minute and again two minutes later, but kept out both of his shots.
In the 71st minute, Keylor Navas made a fine save at the other end to deny Harry Kane after he was played through by Fernando Llorente.
Two minutes later, Llorente set Christian Eriksen up with a headed pass, but Navas made another good save to keep his shot out.
In the end, the two sides shared the spoils. Both remain on course to go through, with each now having picked up seven points in three Group H games.
