Dutch defender Virgil van Dijk was imperious at the heart of Liverpool's UCL success last season, and it has now been revealed that he was also the fastest player in the competition, after being recorded sprinting at 34.5km/h during the first leg of the club's semi-final tie against FC Barcelona, as per uefa.com.

The former Southampton star was followed by the Manchester City pairing of Leroy Sane – who features twice – and Kyle Walker, who placed second and third after recording top speeds of 34.4km/h and 34.2km/h against Hoffenheim and Tottenham Hotspur, respectively.
Real Madrid's Wales superstar Bale completes the top four after reaching the blistering speed of 33.8km/h in his side's comprehensive 3-0 win over AS Roma, which was also a match in which he found himself on the scoresheet.
