Diego Simeone appeared to aim jibes at Pep Guardiola in a post-match press conference after Atletico Madrid crashed out of the UEFA Champions League at the hands of Manchester City, with the Spanish boss later responding to his comments.

Following their feisty 0-0 draw with the Citizens at the Wanda Metropolitano on Wednesday night, Simeone seemed to take aim at comments made by Guardiola in the past after his side were dumped out of the competition following a 1-0 aggregate defeat.
The ex-Barcelona manager has previously showered the Argentine and his team with praise, but it appears Simeone did not receive those remarks as Guardiola intended.
"I don't have to have that sort of opinion. I don't think he will talk badly or talk well," he said, according to the Metro.
"Often, people who talk really well, and are really clever, they manage to praise you with contempt.
"But those of us who perhaps have a smaller vocabulary are not so stupid either."
Guardiola, meanwhile, denied ever complimenting Simeone and his Atletico side under false pretences, insisting in his post-match press conference that at no point has he criticised his opponents.
"I have only ever had good words to say about him. He can play however he wants, of course. I would never say otherwise. All I said was that it is very hard. And they know how to do that better than anyone in the world," the Spaniard said.
"Don't be mistaken, I never criticised Atlético."
