On Tuesday, the footballing world was taken by surprise when Roma announced that Mourinho would succeed Paulo Fonseca from the 2021/22 campaign.
The big reveal came hours after the club confirmed that Fonseca would leave his post at the end of this season, with the Portuguese manager currently earning €2.2 million (R38 million) a year at I Giallorossi, according to Finance Football.
Football Italia has reported that Mourinho will be paid an annual salary of €7 million (R121 million) at Roma, which is far from the €16 million (R277 million) a year he was earning at Spurs before he was fired.
The 58-year-old's yearly earnings at Roma will reportedly make him the second-highest-paid manager in Italy's top division, with Inter Milan's Antonio Conte at the top of the list.
The Italian tactician helped secure the Nerazzurri's first Serie A title in 11 years this past weekend, with Inter last claiming the title under Mourinho in the 2009/10 campaign.
