The 34-year-old is set to hang up his boots and draw the curtains on an illustrious career at the end of the Major League Soccer season.
Higuain has donned the famous jerseys of River Plate, Real Madrid, Napoli, Juventus, Chelsea, and AC Milan, and he has announced that this campaign with US club Inter Miami will be his final one in professional football.
"Three or four months ago I told the club, it wasn't from one day to the next," Higuain said during a press conference on Monday, as per Goal.
"I had been working on it for years. When I came here, I came for the pleasure of enjoying football, of my life, of having Fede close, my brother.
"It was another stage in my career, but I can tell you that it was one of the best moments of my career, and this club, my teammates and the coaching staff gave it to me, who gave me back the desire to play football.
"I can now retire as I always dreamed, scoring goals and having fun playing the game."

Higuain has been one of the most prolific marksmen of the 21st century, having found the back of the net 333 times in 707 games so far, according to Tranfermarkt.
Those goals helped him win multiple league and cup titles in Spain and Italy, and he will now be looking to add the MLS Cup to his ranks before he calls time on his career.
Inter Miami, co-owned by David Beckham, are currently holding on to the last play-off spot in the Eastern Conference, and with two games left in the regular season, they will be looking to enter their very first play-offs in the coming weeks.
