Former Mamelodi Sundowns star Junior Mendieta scored his first brace of the season to help ex-AmaZulu boss Pablo Franco make it back-to-back victories in Saudi Arabia.

The Argentine playmaker returned to the scoresheet in a massive way earlier this week, as his two goals against Al-Jandal helped his side earn a 2-0 victory in the Saudi First Division.
Despite making an early impact at his new side — scoring his first goal for the club during his second appearance — the Corrientes native had not managed to find the back of the net since, going seven matches without registering a goal contribution.
That was until Franco’s charges came up against Al-Jandal earlier this week, with the ex-Stellenbosch FC forward scoring two goals either side of half-time to help his side earn successive victories in the league. The Burgundy of Sudair now move to 13th on the log standings, within one point of their opponents, who have now lost five games on the trot.
Mendieta received Player of the Match honours as he continues to raise his profile in the oil-rich kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The 31-year-old made the move to the Gulf region from Greek side Volos NPS at the start of the year, where he was having a somewhat productive season — scoring four goals and bagging one assist in 15 appearances in the Super League 1.

It is alleged that the club’s financial issues forced them to sell Mendieta, and he has now linked up with former South African top-flight manager Franco.
