In recent weeks, rumours that the 35-year-old Argentine could be on his way back to the Catalan giants have gathered steam.
Publications in Spain have suggested there is a real possibility the Blaugrana will move for him when he becomes a free agent at the end of the season, with it thought that Messi is open to the idea of a stunning return.
In France, the Albiceleste captain has less than a year remaining on his contract amid suggestions the Ligue 1 champions are looking to extend his stay by a further 12 months with the option of a further year.
Prior to it appearing that Messi could one day end up back at his boyhood club, it was believed the MLS would be the Argentine's most likely next destination after spending time in France.
It has been claimed Inter Miami FC have held a serious interest in the forward for some time, with Messi reportedly having interest in spending the twilight years of his career in the US.
This week, though, Spanish journalist Josep Pedrerol has said that clubs in America have become aware of the player's desire to return to Barcelona in favour of taking his career to the MLS at this point.
