The Real Madrid superstar also scored four goals in his latest outing before the current international break, taking his total for the calendar year to 21 strikes.

Ronaldo has already opened up a five-goal gap on Lionel Messi and Antoine Griezmann, who have both found the back of the net 16 times since the turn of the year.

Manchester City forward Sergio Aguero follows in fourth spot with 15 strikes, while Paris Saint-Germain's Angel Di Maria, Messi's teammate Luis Suarez, and Galatasaray's Bafetimbi Gomis sit on 14 goals each.

Salah appears outside the top five for the calendar year with 13 goals in 2018 so far, as many as Benfica striker Jonas and Sporting Lisbon's Bas Dost.
