Report: The Best Attacking Trios In International Football

Are Brazil's Neymar, Gabriel Jesus and Philippe Coutinho the best attacking trio in international football? Here is an overview of some of the top trios for their national teams.

Stats experts Squawka looked at the recent international break and suggested that the following attacking trios are the best in international football right now.

However, they explain why teams like Germany or Italy don't feature in their overview, saying: "Obviously this has to be a team that actually plays with a front three, so just picking the three best attackers of a team that plays 4-2-3-1, like Germany or Italy, doesn't count."

According to Squawka, Brazil have the best attacking trio right now. Coach Tite seems to have found the right mix with Neymar on the left wing, Jesus up front and Coutinho on the right.

Neymar is Brazil's best active goalscorer, having netted 52 times overall for the Selecao, with six of those strikes coming in 2018 FIFA World Cup qualification. However, Jesus and Coutinho have stepped up as well, scoring 11 goals between them on Brazil's way to Russia.

Squawka rated Argentina's trio of Lionel Messi, Paulo Dybala and Mauro Icardi as the second best attacking frontline, even though Albiceleste boss Jorge Sampaoli is struggling to fit them together in his tactical plans. While all three are firing on all cylinders for their clubs, they just don't seem to gel on international duty, with Dybala and Icardi yet to even score at international level. On paper, though, there are not many better attacking trios in international football.

Spain's trio of David Silva, Alvaro Morata and Isco, who each scored five goals in La Furia Roja's successful World Cup qualification campaign, completes the top three.
