It is claimed there is a real chance Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi could join forces at Paris Saint-Germain next season.
With manager Mauricio Pochettino rumoured to be set to be relieved of his duties by the French giants in June, reports suggest the Zinedine Zidane is the club's priority target for the role ahead of the 2022/23 season.
Messi's contract in France runs until the end of the next campaign, although he and PSG have the option to extend his stay by a further year as part of the agreement reached upon his arrival in Paris in August last year.
According to Spanish publication Marca, should Zidane accept an approach from the Ligue 1 leaders, he will look to lure Ronaldo from Manchester United in a bid to reunite with the five-time UEFA Champions League winner.
It is claimed the Portuguese could be tempted to join forces with the likes of Messi and Neymar in attack, with France star Kylian Mbappe expected to join Real Madrid after the current campaign concludes.
There appears to be a feeling that Ronaldo might not stay in England if United fail to qualify for next season's Champions League, although the Red Devils are said to already be in search of his replacement despite his deal only running out in 2023.
This could mean the struggling English giants are preparing for life without the 37-year-old either way, which might result in his career being taken to France's capital.
Ronaldo has long been linked with PSG, whose president Nasser Al-Khelaifi has often demonstrated his admiration for the ex-Los Blancos talisman and has reportedly tried to sign him in the past.
In 2021, the club chief decided he would sign free agent Messi instead of forking out a cash amount for the then-Juventus forward, but it seems that was not the end of Al-Khelaifi's long-term plan to one day bring Ronaldo to France.
PSG have gained a reputation for its bold, almost Galactico-like approach to recruitment, and the club could thus be eager to unite two rivals – Messi and Ronaldo – in what would arguably be the biggest football story in the sport's history.
