Swedish prosecutors have officially closed their investigation into an alleged rape case that occurred in Stockholm in October, which had seen Kylian Mbappe named as a person of interest. The case was dismissed due to insufficient evidence.

"During the course of the investigation, there has been a designated person suspected on reasonable grounds of rape and two cases of sexual assault, but my assessment is that the evidence is not sufficient to proceed, and the investigation is therefore closed," said lead prosecutor Marina Chirakova in a statement on Thursday, as reported by The Guardian.
"The designated person has not been notified of suspicion of a crime."
The inquiry stemmed from an alleged incident at a Stockholm hotel two months ago, with a criminal complaint lodged shortly after.
Although prosecutors did not name any individuals involved, several Swedish media outlets reported that the Real Madrid superstar was "reasonably suspected" of rape, which is the lowest level of suspicion within Sweden's legal framework.
The French forward was believed to have been in Stockholm with friends during the international break after being left off France's squad. It was reported that Mbappe visited the restaurant Chez Jolie and the nightclub V before departing the city the following day.
Mbappe and his representatives swiftly denied the allegations. The Real star hinted on X (formerly Twitter) that the claims might have been linked to a dispute with his former club, Paris Saint-Germain, regarding an ongoing pay issue.
In a more recent interview with French broadcaster Canal+, Mbappe addressed the investigation directly, expressing his surprise at the entire situation.
"These are things that come into your life like that, you can't see them coming," he remarked.

"It's just incomprehension. I don't think it weighed on me, in the sense that I have never considered myself involved."
