Man Utd To Terminate Ronaldo’s Contract?

Man Utd To Terminate Ronaldo’s Contract?

Following Cristiano Ronaldo's controversial remarks about Manchester United, reports suggest that the club are considering ripping up the Portuguese superstar's contract.

Messi: Pep Has Done A Lot Of Harm To Football

Earlier this week, Ronaldo shocked the footballing world when he gave a combustive interview to English journalist Piers Morgan about his time at Old Trafford.

The 37-year-old made plenty of controversial statements pertaining to head coach Erik ten Hag, the Glazer family and and some of his former teammates such as Wayne Rooney and Gary Neville.

In response, the Red Devils are now weighing their options up as to how to deal with the matter. One avenue that is reportedly being discussed is the termination of the Portugal captain's contract with the club.

According to The Telegraph, United are open to letting Ronaldo walk for free in the January transfer window, but it would only be possible if both parties can agree that the Madeira native should not be compensated for the remainder of his current deal.

Currently, Ronaldo is not only the highest-paid player in the Premier League but the highest-earning player in United's history with his wages of £560 000 (R11.3 million) per week.

Ronaldo Hits Back At Rooney Over Man Utd Criticism

The same report suggests that it is unlikely that Ronaldo forgo the rest of his wages, which likely means that the club will have to explore an alternative way of dealing with the five-time Ballon d'Or winner. Fortunately for the Mancunians, there will be no club football for the next month, giving them ample time to consider their other options.

The club have released a statement regarding the interview but are also waiting on the full transcript to come out before making a definitive decision on their top goalscorer from last season.

Something United's hierarchy will have to factor when making a decision about Ronaldo is that Ten Hag no longer wants the forward to be a part of squad following the interview. As per ESPN, the Dutch tactician finds the ex-Real Madrid man's comments unacceptable and is not willing to compromise the teams unity for him.
