Messi: I See Similarities Between Argentina's 2014 Team Now
For all the success that Guardiola has been able to achieve while at Bayern Munich and at Manchester City, the Spaniard's most memorable managerial spell was arguably with Barcelona. The four years the La Masia alumni spent at the Camp Nou appeared to revolutionise football, and, according to Messi, it may have not been for the best.
"Guardiola did a lot of harm to football. It seemed so simple and easy that everyone wanted to copy his style," the seven-time Ballon d'Or winner told Movistar Plus.
It was while the duo were together when Barca seemed almost unstoppable as Guardiola and Messi helped the Blaugrana win all the honours there were to win at club level.
The Argentine has since lauded how his former manager has had such a profound impact on the way the modern game is played.
"Yeah, later I found a lot of Guardiolas around. That's when you realise what we accomplished," Messi added.
Guardiola Responds To Claim That He Has Created A Monster In Arteta
Despite being coached by some of world's very best coaches since the time he spent with Guardiola, the La Albiceleste captain holds no manager in higher regard than the 51-year-old.
"No doubt about it, Guardiola is special, distinctively the way he sees every match, the preparation for it and how he communicates (the strategy) to us," Messi said, after he was asked if the City boss was the best coach he had ever worked with.
