The Germany-based International Federation of Football History Statistics (IFFHS) have announced their first ever World XI following a vote from 91 members around the world.

IFFHS' version of the world's best XI in 2017 differs in only one position from FIFA's official World XI, which was announced on 23 October – Manchester City's Kevin De Bruyne replaced FC Barcelona's Andres Iniesta in the attacking midfield position.

UEFA Champions League winners Real Madrid have the most representatives with five players, namely: Sergio Ramos, Marcelo, Luka Modric, Toni Kroos and Cristiano Ronaldo.

Paris Saint-Germain follow with two of their stars, Dani Alves and Neymar, while Messi is the only Barcelona man in the selection. De Bruyne, AC Milan's Leonardo Bonucci and Juventus goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon complete the XI.
