The accolade, which recognises Messi as the best individual player on the planet, was won by Ronaldo last year, but the Portuguese ace only managed second place on this occasion, with Juventus' Gianluigi Buffon claiming the third spot.
When asked about 2015 on an individual level, Messi was unable to pick out his favourite moment.
"It's very difficult to choose one [moment]," he told Marca.
"It has been an extraordinarily good year, and the whole year we've had will stay with me."
The Blaugrana's president, Josep Maria Bartomeu, was on hand to pick up his team's prize for the best club of the year at the same event.
"It is difficult to win everything we have won. We enjoy our football, and our philosophy, and our aim is to make people happy," Bartomeu said.
"This year we will be trying to win once again. With Messi and the others that is easy.
