Barcelona superstar, Lionel Messi, is reportedly considering the possibility of missing the remaining international friendlies that Argentina are scheduled to play in 2014.
Messi, who has been captain of his country since 2011, wants to focus on returning to top form for Barcelona and would like to only return to wearing his national team colours in 2015, when Argentina will compete for the Copa America.
Before the year ends, Argentina are scheduled to play against Germany, Brazil and Hong Kong. The South Americans have their concerns about Messi's plans, despite understanding his reasoning, because they are aware that the 27-year-old's absence will see a significant reduction in the commercial value of their friendlies.
If Messi takes the decision to lessen his international commitments, it could decrease his popularity amongst Argentinians, who have already questioned his loyalty to the national team after he stated that he identifies as a Catalonian in the past.
Messi made his debut for the Argentina in 2005, has since scored 42 goals in 93 appearances for Albiceleste and he won the Golden Ball at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
The FC Barcelona star has been withdrawn from Argentina's friendly against Germany tonight.
