While his time at the Citizens has come to an end, Silva will be immortalised for his outstanding contribution to the Manchester-based club over the past decade, with a statue of the Spaniard set to be erected outside the Etihad Stadium.
The Citizens announced their plans on Monday, with chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak saying: "David Silva is a transformational player; a quiet leader who has acted quietly and deliberately and inspired everyone around him, from the youngest academy player to his senior teammates over the past 10 years.
"He has put a stamp on the team, on this club, its history and even the Premier League as a whole. In doing so, he has been instrumental to the beautiful football philosophy you see today. He was the start of it."
Other footballers have been honoured in the same way over the years, including Lionel Messi, who had a statue of him erected in Argentina's capital city of Buenos Aires in 2016. Unfortunately, due to his love-hate relationship with fans in his home country, the sculpture has been vandalised on many occasions.
Manchester United and Real Madrid icon David Beckham was honoured outside LA Galaxy's stadium in the US with a monument, although the MLS side's decision to do so was met with anger from some supporters.
