The Red Devils ended their pursuit for a new striker after brining in Ighalo from Shanghai Shenhua on a short-term deal, and the ex-Super Eagles star will become the seventh African player to represent the club.

Ighalo joins Ivory Coast star Eric Bailly as the only Africans on United's books this season, with the 25-year-old defender having been at the club since 2016, when he joined from Villarreal.

Arguably the most famous player from the continent to play at Old Trafford is former Bafana Bafana star Quinton Fortune. The 2002/03 Premier League winner spend six seasons in Manchester between 2000 and 2006, and returned to the club last year to take up a role as a youth coach.

Other players from the continent have fared worse, however, with the likes of Manucho, Eric Djemba-Djemba and Wilfried Zaha failing to make a name for themselves at the club. You can see all of United's African stars by scrolling through the gallery above!
